Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Jan 19
The 1998 Brane-Cantenac is one bottle that showed better here than at the previous vertical two years ago. Picked from September 18 to October 3, it has more fruit on the nose compared to the 1999, offering enticing cranberry, raspberry, dried leaves and a touch of cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin. There is plenty of graphite- and tobacco-infused red fruit, and a little more substance on the finish than I discerned previously, yet it never quite builds on the promise of the nose and leaves you wanting more. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château.
